Using ICT to support Mathematics

Click here to visit the Standards Site – Primary Framework for Mathematics

The renewed Primary Framework for Mathematics is different from the 1999 framework in the following ways:

An electronic version - The electronic format will allow you to link quickly to a wide range of teaching and learning resources, so that you can customise your planning, teaching and assessment more easily.

A clearer structure for mathematics - To simplify the structure of the objectives, seven strands of learning in mathematics are identified. These give a broad overview of the mathematics curriculum in the primary phase. The objectives are aligned to the seven strands to demonstrate progression in each strand.

Slimmed-down objectives - Another key difference is that objectives in the 1999 Framework for mathematics have been slimmed down to give a clearer sense of the important aspects of mathematics that need to be taught to children.

You can download two documents from the website that give the Mathematics Learning objectives by strand and by year group. You can also download the pdf version here.
